Buchan is a global design studio where diversity and integrated ideas thrive.
The Walk Arcade Redevelopment is the first project in Bourke Street Mall for over 50 years. The project consists over 6000sqm of retail space, BoH and service zones in the basement, and a 9 level IHG dual branded hotel of 450 rooms, public spaces and F&B. The design response reflects the historical development pattern of the site and retains the notion of a collection of individual building forms, corresponding to the retained heritage façades of PB Bootery, Diamond House, York and Allans Buildings, recreating the gaps and spaces between building forms allowing natural light to penetrate deep into the site and for the creation of authentic mid site laneways and arcades.
Students visiting Buchan for the 2022 Open Day Series will take a deep-dive into The Walk project. Following a site visit led by senior architect Hayden Djakic, students will work in groups on a design challenge run by students and graduates at Buchan.
