MENTAL COMPETITION
About
The MENTAL Competition was a 3 stage event inviting students across the University of Melbourne to ultimately conceptualise a ‘comfort room’ for the MENTAL Exhibition at Melbourne Science Gallery to be build in their existing first aid room space.

From 175 registrations, 3 winners and 6 shortlisted entries were chosen by a judging panel comprised of Professor Alan Pert (Director, Melbourne School of Design), Tilly Boleyn (Curator, Science Gallery), Sarah Peters (Editor, Farrago), Rory Randall (Consumer Academic, Centre for Psychiatric Nursing University of Melbourne), Tharidi Walimunige (Editor, Farrago). The entrants were asked to explore what comfort meant to them.
Their was a cash prize for the winners and their entries formed part of the breif for Stage 2 of the competition.

Held at Science Gallery, Melbourne Connect Building. Interfaculty teams were challenged to conceive and communicate a multisensory, physical retreat space. The competition involved sessional mentoring with university faculty members to refine their concept. On the third and final day entrants had the opportunity to present their designs to an expert judging panel.
Their was a cash prize for the winning team and the opportunity to have their design realised within the science gallery space.
